# Start chatting on Microsoft Teams

> Chat with WednesdayAI in Microsoft Teams via direct message or in channels.

# Start chatting on Microsoft Teams

WednesdayAI appears in Microsoft Teams as a bot that your administrator or IT department has installed for your organisation. You can chat with it privately or mention it in team channels.

## What you need

* Microsoft Teams from your organisation
* The bot installed by your administrator or IT team (ask them if you cannot find it)

## Steps

  <Step title="Find the bot">
    In Teams, tap the search bar and type the bot's name (your administrator can tell you what it is called). Bots you can chat with directly appear under **People** or **Bots** in the results. Your administrator may also have pinned it to a team or channel.

  <Step title="Send a private message">
    Select the bot from the search results and type your message in the chat. The bot will reply within a few seconds.

    <Note>
      The first time you message the bot you may receive a **pairing code** — a short reply with an 8-character code — instead of a normal answer. Send that code to your administrator. Once they approve it, message the bot again and it will answer normally. Codes expire after one hour; if that happens, just message the bot again for a fresh one.

  <Step title="Use it in channels and group chats">
    In a team channel or group chat, mention the bot to get its attention:

    > @WednesdayAI can you summarise this thread?

    In channels, the bot's reply usually appears in a thread under your message, keeping the main channel tidy.

## Tips

* **Mention to be noticed** — in channels and group chats the bot only responds when you mention it with `@`. In a private chat, every message gets a reply.
* **Everyone in the channel sees the conversation** — ask personal or sensitive questions in a private chat instead.
* **Files** — you can send and receive files in a private chat with the bot. Support for files in channels and group chats depends on how your administrator set it up.

## Troubleshooting

    Mention the bot by typing `@` and selecting it from the suggestions. If mentioning does not work, that channel or group chat may not be enabled for the bot — ask your administrator. Group chats are switched off by default.

    The bot app may not be installed for you yet. Ask your administrator or IT department to make it available in your Teams organisation.

  <Accordion title="My private messages are ignored">
    You may be waiting for pairing approval — send the 8-character code you received to your administrator, then message the bot again. If you never received a code, ask your administrator to check the bot's access settings.

  <Accordion title="The bot says I am not allowed">
    Your Teams account may not be on the bot's allowed list yet. Ask your administrator to add you.
