Start chatting on Signal

WednesdayAI on Signal uses its own Signal phone number, set up by your administrator. You message it the same way you message any other Signal contact.

Steps

Get the bot's number from your administrator

Ask your administrator for the phone number WednesdayAI uses on Signal. Save it as a contact (for example “WednesdayAI”) so it shows up with a name instead of an unknown number.

Send your first message

Open Signal, start a chat with that number, and send any message — for example:
Hi
WednesdayAI will reply within a few seconds.
Depending on how your administrator configured access, you may receive a pairing code instead of a direct answer — a short reply containing an 8-character code. Copy the code and send it to your administrator. Once they approve it, send another message and you will get a normal reply. Codes expire after one hour; if that happens, just message the bot again for a fresh one.

Group chats

If WednesdayAI is in a Signal group with you, it stays quiet by default. To get its attention, include the bot’s name (the name your administrator gave it, or the name you saved its number under) in your message text — for example:
WednesdayAI, what do you think of this plan?
On Signal, replying to one of the bot’s messages does not count as a mention — the bot only wakes up when its name appears in your message. Commands such as /status or /reset still work in groups and are handled even without a mention.

Tips

  • Save the bot as a contact — chats with unnamed numbers are easy to lose in your list, and the bot’s name is what wakes it in groups.
  • Signal keeps things private — Signal encrypts messages end to end. Your administrator controls who is allowed to talk to the bot.
  • Messages need your phone’s connection — the bot runs on a Signal account your administrator maintains. If it stops responding for a long stretch, ask them to check it.

Troubleshooting

Check that you messaged the correct number. If the number is right and there is no reply after a minute, ask your administrator to run openclaw channels status --channel signal to check the connection.
Pairing codes are valid for one hour. Send a new message to the bot’s number and you will get a fresh code.
Your Signal number may not be approved yet. Ask your administrator to approve your pairing code or add your number to the allowed list.
In Signal groups the bot only replies when your message contains its name. Make sure you spelled the name as your administrator set it up. If it still stays quiet, the group itself may not be allowed — ask your administrator.
