Start chatting on Slack

WednesdayAI appears in your Slack workspace as an app. You can message it privately or talk to it in a channel — there is nothing to install on your end.

  • Access to the Slack workspace where your administrator installed the app

Steps

Find the app

In Slack, click the search box and type the app’s name (your administrator can tell you what it is called), or look for it under Apps in the left sidebar.

Start a conversation

You have two ways to chat:Private message: click the app’s name and select the Messages tab, then type your message. Everything you send here is between you and the AI.In a channel: type your message in a channel the app can see, and mention it to get its attention:
The AI replies in the same channel, usually within a few seconds. While it is working, it typically adds a brief emoji reaction (like 👀) to your message so you can see it is thinking.

Share the pairing code (if you received one)

The first time you send a private message, you may get a short reply with an 8-character code instead of an answer. Copy that code and send it to your administrator. Once they approve it, message the app again and it will answer normally. Codes expire after one hour — if that happens, just send another message for a fresh one.

Using commands

On Slack, commands such as /reset or /status are sent as plain text — just type them as a normal message to the bot. Depending on how your administrator set it up, the app may also offer a Slack slash command (for example /openclaw) or native slash commands. Type / in a channel and look for the app in the list to check.

Tips

  • Mention to be noticed — in channels the bot only responds when you mention it by name or reply in a thread to something it said. In a private message, every message gets a reply.
  • Threads — by default the bot replies directly in the channel. Some administrators set it up to reply in a thread under your message instead, which keeps busy channels tidy.
  • Everyone can see channel replies — anything you ask in a channel is visible to the whole channel. Use a private message for personal questions.

Troubleshooting

Mention the app by name (type @ and select it from the popup) — it does not answer every channel message by default. If mentioning does not work, the channel may not be allowed, or the app may be missing permissions. Ask your administrator, or send a private message instead.
You may be waiting for pairing approval — send the 8-character code you received to your administrator. If you never received a code, ask your administrator to check the app’s DM settings.
Ask your administrator for the exact app name. If the app is not installed in your workspace yet, only they can add it.
Send the command as its own message, directly to the bot (in a DM or with a mention in a channel). If it still has no effect, you may not be an authorised user yet — ask your administrator.
