Pair WhatsApp

Connecting WednesdayAI to WhatsApp takes about a minute. You scan a QR code on your phone — no phone number entry, no verification code.

What you need

  • A smartphone with WhatsApp installed
  • Your administrator’s confirmation that the WhatsApp channel is set up

Steps

1. Ask your administrator for the QR code

Your administrator can show the pairing QR code by running:
openclaw channels whatsapp qr
This displays a QR code in the terminal, or they can share it with you as an image.

2. Scan the QR code on your phone

On your phone:
  1. Open WhatsApp
  2. Tap the three-dot menu (Android) or Settings (iPhone)
  3. Tap Linked devices
  4. Tap Link a device
  5. Scan the QR code your administrator showed you
You’ll see “Device successfully linked” in WhatsApp.

3. Say hello

WednesdayAI will send you a welcome message in WhatsApp within a few seconds of linking. If you don’t receive a welcome message after 30 seconds, send a message yourself:
Hi
This confirms the connection is working.

Tips

  • WhatsApp must stay connected — your phone needs an internet connection for messages to reach WednesdayAI. The gateway buffers messages while your phone is briefly offline, but extended offline periods may cause delays.
  • You don’t need to keep WhatsApp open — background delivery works as long as your phone has a data connection.
  • Re-linking — if your phone is factory reset or WhatsApp is reinstalled, you’ll need to re-scan the QR code. Ask your administrator.

Troubleshooting

QR codes expire after 20 seconds. Ask your administrator to run the QR command again to get a fresh code.
Check that your phone has a data connection. If it does, ask your administrator to run openclaw doctor to check the WhatsApp channel status.
You have been away for a long time and the session timed out. Ask your administrator to generate a new QR code and re-scan it.
Your administrator may need to add your WhatsApp number to the allowed contacts list. Ask them to check the channel access policy.
